This is a piece of upholstery cut from a “comfortable chair”. It measures 6 1/2 inches square and is a beautiful piece of heavy tapestry-like fabric, with a geometric triangle design, in red, green, gold, and peach weave. This was brought home by a veteran named Robert Anderson, serial number 0-1482379, who at the time was a 2nd Lieutenant in Signals Corp, a service detachment with the 10th Field Artillery serving with the 3rd Division. He was with one of the first teams to enter the Berchtesgaden area even before the paratroopers. He was able to retrieve some items from Göring’s train and his house and place them in a parachute recovery bag. This piece is one of the items he brought back.
The exact pattern of the upholstery can be seen in vintage photos.
