After its capture in early May 1945, the Eagle’s Nest was quickly plundered by French and US troops, eager to grab a prized souvenir of Hitler’s infamous teahouse. This knob was removed from the Eagle’s Nest kitchen stove by the corporal James Barrett Whitaker, 3rd Patton’s division. Whitaker snapped some photos of the interior teahouse including the famous red marble fireplace and dining room.
